My husband, Brad and I, live with our four boys in the Hucrest area of Roseburg.  We spend a lot of our time with family activities, enjoying all that Douglas County has to offer.

Before becoming a stay-at-home mom about 15 years ago, I earned a degree from Umpqua Community College (UCC).  Later I attended Eastern Oregon University for another year majoring in business administration, which gave me a solid background for my career in real estate.

Beside working to build my real estate business and taking care of a household, I volunteer with various groups in the community.  This includes being part of the local preschool-co-op with all our boys, being active in local homeschool group (when I homeschooled our oldest for a few years) and being a long-time member of our local YMCA.  We are also strong supporters of our local youth orchestra.  Even with our busy lives, we always find time to spend time with our family and friends.

I don’t think there is any place better than Douglas County to do these things.  The diversity of scenery, from the majestic mountains of the Cascades, which holds the only National Park in our state, to the Oregon Dunes National Recreational area and all the rivers and valleys that flow between, can’t be beat for an outdoor enthusiast like me.   These provide the perfect backdrop for the things I like to do with the people important to me.  Gardening, camping and just exploring affords wonderful opportunities to engage with my family, as do so many other things this community has to offer.  Douglas County does not just have the great outdoors to offer; it provides a wholesome and peaceful place to raise a family or spend one’s retirement.

The most important thing I would like people to know about me is honesty is extremely important to me in every aspect of my life, which includes how I conduct my business.  I believe honesty requires providing accurate and complete information to help people make the best decisions for themselves.  After all, buying a home is one of the most important decisions most of us will make and I see helping people with this to be an important responsibility.

Why did I choose real estate?

Although real estate allows me the freedom and flexibility to be able to balance work and family (it can be a dream job for a stay at home mom, who is reentering the workforce), it is much more than that.  It provides me the opportunity to do something valuable by helping people achieve their dream of finding a new home.

Buying a home is not just any old purchase. Home ownership not only provides security and stability to the home buyer, but also to the entire community.  So, I believe that helping people find the home that is right for them is a very worthwhile thing to do; one I am honored to be doing.

Our experience with Loren was extremely  satisfactory when we dealt with her searching for a home.  Loren had an exact sense of what we were looking for in a home.  When viewing prospective homes Loren was very well prepared with information and answered any and all questions regarding the properties she was showing us.  She is very competent and knowledgeable.  Our daughter also dealt with Loren when purchasing a home a few years ago, and was very satisfied with her services.” – Bob & Luchy B.

We wanted to recognize Joan Smith as a wonderful realtor to work with. In the 10 years we had our properties on the market, we worked with 3 realtors, Joan being the last. She was the hardest working at selling our hard-to-sell land and gave us much good advice and direction. We would definitely work with her again in the future. She was able to get us a good price for our land and get it sold. She never gave up even when we were tired and discouraged. Loved her enthusiasm and positive spirit. Thanks so much, Joan.” – Jim & Sharon S.

I just wanted to thank you for the great job you did in helping me purchase the house I could afford. You are a really good realtor and I know you didn’t make a lot of money on the home I bought because it didn’t cost as much as most. You have a great attitude about this, saying, “everyone needs to have a home to live in“. With this outlook you have, you are not just a great realtor, you are a wonderful human being. Thank you again, Joan. God bless you.” – Penny M.

You were so acommodating to us with our very short timeline coming from out of state to search for and purchase a home in less than one week. You coordinated the purchase offer and counter offers efficiently, giving us solid advice on how we should proceed with each step of the transaction. You even provided us with an excellent referral for a loan company which enabled us to get a great interest rate.” – Ronald & Kathleen L.

Joan’s knowledge and wisdom in the real estate market has been so appreciated. She has worked with me and my family for almost two years and has really become part of our family. I have friends and family who will in time be in need of a realtor and Joan Smith is who I will send them to.” – Kelly F.
